I`ve always liked the tiny St Ninian`s cottage, a miniature curiosity nestled in amongst the other houses along Kingsmeadows Road, running parallel to the river.
Walking along the old railway I chanced upon this scene: parents preparing their children for the novice pony event. Tweeded little boys with leather patches on their elbows and big rosettes, hats as big as their bodies. Mums, dads, sisters putting the final touches to harnesses, mains and tails.
All shapes and sizes of pony. The sun casting a strong evening shadow making shapes on the tarmac and horsebox.
The zig zag road markings lending depth.
A little girl taking it all in. And a Jacques Tati–like character, having parked his Citroen camper van, enjoying the drama; an outsider, entranced by the strange and beautiful customs of a horse loving town.
